On Saturday 4th July my friend Robbie and I took my part in the Dunwich Dynamo - a 112 mile night ride from London Fields to Dunwich. It was a fantastic and novel event with perfect conditions; tale wind, warm and dry.
We cycled to the event from Cambridge and upon arriving at London (where we consumed two pizzas each) and then cycled home from Dunwich. After setting off from Dunwich I noticed a pain in my left thigh which I brushed off as 'cake legs' or in this case 'fry up legs'. It gradually grew until my pace got to around 10 miles an hour. Realising at this point it was something more serious I managed to get a lift into the hospital.
The Doc told me I had torn my Vastus obliquus medialis. At this point I was worried that this would end my 2015 TCR attempt but luckily he said just relax for a few days (with ice packs, crutches and Netflix) and then take it easy for the rest of the week doing some light stretching.
Otherwise it was a good trip, aside from my leg my body was in great condition with no significant pains anywhere. In terms of kit I do lack a bit of space but I think with a little better packing I may be able to fit in the current bags I have. Still to properly test the sleeping aspect yet...
